Ballet NY

Posted in Ballet with tags on November 19, 2011 by seatfiller

What I saw last night. Ballet NY at the Ailey Citigroup Theater . The first piece I can’t really remember. The second was an odd duet. The third was also a duet but a little more pastoral with music by Schubert. The last piece was modern with Moby like music and much emoting.

Elements: backdrop of a tree
Title: “Concerto” by Bahiri “In Twilight” by Bahiri “Duet from The Other” by Agnes DeMille “The Edge” by Bahiri

Syren Modern Dance

What I saw last night. Syren Modern Dance at the Ailey Citigroup Theater. img_0360The Alvin Ailey building is nice despite the fact that they put all the rehearsal spaces on display for the public. It reminds me of Amsterdam. The Ailey Citigroup Theater however is a small step above a high school gym with its creaky rollaway seating.

The show. Several women and two men dance in front of a chamber ensemble.

Yet another new feature! Random words from the biographies in the program.

Bios: …the Lord for every breath, every dance in this journey of life.
Elements: live music “Artemis Chamber Ensemble”, flared pants with leather aprons
Title: “Pelleas et Melisande” Jean Sibelius  “the last of the leaves” John Adams
