Big Dance Theater

What I saw last night. Big Dance Theater at the BAM Harvey Theater. Based on the play  “Alkestis” by Euripides this is more theater than dance piece. There is some running in place and an occasional swoon but mostly lines are delivered with the gusto of a Richard Maxwell play and with the set and eclectic performance and audio methods of the Wooster Group. None of it rises to the level of these influencers though. Brings to mind my favorite Euripides joke by I believe Chico Marx. “Euripides you buy a these”

Elements: film, drumming, singing, acting, televisions, curtains, fake mustache, smoking, bow

What I saw last night. Ralph Lemon at the BAM Harvey Theater. Starts minimally with a film and narration from a chair seated to the side of the screen. It was a wise choice or the rest of the show might have been unfathomable. Primarily about loss it made me sad but not necessarily in a bad way.

Elements: chair, film, spoken word, projections

What I saw last night. Juliette Binoche & Akram Khan at the BAM Harvey Theater.Harv She did better at dancing than he did at acting. Strange audience. A number of people got up during the show and left. I thought they did not like the show but they would come back 10 minutes later. I guess they could not hold it for an hour.

Elements: chairs, voice over, acting
Title: “In-I”
