The Bessie Awards

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on October 19, 2010 by seatfiller

What I saw last night.  The Bessie Awards at Symphony Space. An awards show for most of the stuff I see. This is as close as I have come to filling the actual role of a seatfiller. Alas they let the seats remain empty when the winner went on stage to collect. Hosted by Isaac Mizrahi the show moved along reasonably well. I am glad they dispensed with the live performances and just showed film of the works. I wonder if an awards show can ever be entertaining.

Elements: tearful speeches, mutual admiration society, fund raising
Title: “Bessies”

The New York Baroque Dance Company

What I saw last night. The New York Baroque Dance Company at Symphony Space. I know very little about Baroque dance except how it is useful as a pun. Still I enjoy the occasional harpsichord so there I was. It was a full stage of musicians, singers and dancers in costume. Seemed something like the characters out of a painting came off the canvas to perform on stage. I particularly enjoyed the unicorn.

Elements: flower ropes, unicorn, singing, live music
Titles: “The Daughters of Memory” “Dance Suite from La Danse” “Zephyre” music by Jean-Philippe Rameau
