American Ballet Theatre “The Tempest”

What I saw last night. American Ballet Theatre at Lincoln Center. IMG_3641The first piece is mostly bare chested men imploring the heavens and occasionally passing around the one woman. The second piece two couples in renaissance fair costumes have an awkward square dance and play keep away with a kleenex. Based on Othello. IMG_3642The final ballet is another piece of Shakespeare. A rather feeble strobe light from the balcony and a half a ship hull behind a scrim is the opening. Marcelo in a Fabio wig shakes his staff at the sky creating lightning effects. The whole thing is kind of dark and hard to follow without already knowing the plot.

Elements: bare chests, strobe lights, shipwreck, wigs
Titles:”Clear” by S. Welch with Paloma Herrera & Sascha Radetsky “The Moor’s Pavane” by J. Limon with Veronika Part, Hee Seo & Cory Stearns “The Tempest” by A. Ratmansky with Marcelo Gomes & Sarah Lane
