Hubbard Street Dance, New York City Ballet, Bill T. Jones Dance and Lil Buck

What I saw last night. Hubbard Street Dance, New York City Ballet, Bill T. Jones Dance and Lil Buck  at the Delacorte Theater. IMG_4672The first piece had the dancers rise up solemnly from the back of the stage. It seemed like some kind of witchy ceremony in dance clothes.

The second piece was for two NYC ballet dancers. In it they moved jaggedly to an electronic score. At one point the woman leaves and adds a skirt to her costume. The man leaves and adds a skirt as well and that is where the gimmick and the humor for some exists.

The next piece had men and women sprinting and diving across the stage with enthusiasm.

The final piece was suppose to feature Lil Buck but he was injured and so his cousin along with some swing dancers and two ballet dancers performed to live music. The narrative they cooked up on short notice was nebulous at best.
