New York City Ballet “Pictures at an Exhibition”

What I saw last night. New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center.

Typical fan rushing to the ballet.

Typical fan rushing to the ballet.

The first piece features columns and couples. The second piece is a school yard romp with Talking Heads style big coats that fly off and above the stage. The third piece is a duet with a big dress, a long coat, a live piano and lots of dark. The fourth piece has ugly unitards and one man left alone and glum because he is not in a couple. The final piece has costumes with large spots of color. The backdrop is a screen with changing color spots and the dancers move unconventionally.

Elements: columns, coats on a wire, screen with splashes of color
