New York City Ballet “Rōdē,ō: Four Dance Episodes”

What I saw last night. New York City Ballet at Lincoln Center. IMG_4949The First piece has many vignettes in front of a series of Kandinsky paintings.

The second piece was a world premier where the choreographer had to fill in for an injured dancer. In it men start as if in racing blocks from the side of the stage and sprint across in costumes that look sporty. There is some humor and gimmicks like sitting at the edge of the stage and looking at the orchestra also pulling a mower cord on the stage to create a drum riff. Only one woman among the men.

The final piece takes place between red banners and featured a pre show talk about the music of Shostakovich.
